About Us

Our Products:

For Ethiopians, weaving is a tradition and a way of life. Weavers support themselves and their families by making fine textiles and selling them at local bazaars. Our products are all hand spun and woven by Ethiopian artisans, from the softest cotton available and from the finest blends of silk. These weavers use traditional techniques, passed down from generation to generation. So with centuries of perfection behind each of our products, you are guaranteed the finest quality. All of our goods are made in small batches to ensure careful attention and to keep that fine quality consistent.

Owning koolDecor goods means more than just high-quality beauty for your home. It means you’ve offered Ethiopian women employment and empowerment. All koolDecor textiles are sourced from local woman-weavers in Ethiopia. Giving these women a chance to ply their craft, and make money doing it, helps secure their financial and social independence. koolDecor understands the value of quality, handcrafted work, and always pays a fair wage to its artisans. Creating a viable market for these goods serves to preserve this tradition of beauty and craftsmanship. And it’s not just textiles koolDecor aims to preserve. African artifacts, ethnic jewelry, and hand carved art pieces are part of our limited and constantly rotating collection.

Who We Are:

After studying interior design at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mekdes Hagos went on to work in interior design and architecture for over 12 years. As an Ethiopian-American, Mekdes decided to collaborate with Ethiopian artists to marry traditional African artifacts with contemporary aesthetics. The result is a carefully selected collection of unique jewelry, hand carved art, and decorative textiles that make the perfect accent for homes worldwide.
